The Move

Three-level hillside residence on the Santa Barbara Riviera being relocated to a single-level downsize within Santa Barbara. Ocean-facing property with significant exposure to salt air, sun, and humidity over the years - which meant special care for furnishings that had aged in that environment.

Inventory: full master bedroom suite, two guest rooms, formal living and dining, gourmet kitchen, library with rare-book collection, and a wine room.

The Challenge

The original property is accessible only by a narrow switchback road that does not accommodate a full-size moving truck. The home itself sits on three levels connected by a single central staircase with one tight 90-degree turn.

The rare-book collection required temperature-controlled handling and careful loading sequence to prevent shifting.

The Approach

Two-truck setup: a 30-foot box truck staged at a flat lot below the property, plus a 16-foot shuttle truck for the switchback access. Six-person crew rotating between staging and shuttle to maintain pace.

The book collection was packed last and unloaded first, transported in our climate-controlled equipment, and placed directly into the destination library before any other furniture arrived in that room.

Floor protection on every surface at both origin and destination, including custom corner guards for the staircase turn.

The Result

Two-day move completed on schedule. Zero damage to the books, furniture, or either property. Client kept us on retainer for the secondary move of their guesthouse contents the following month.
